With the Virtual Private Network space heating up over the past year, just about all providers are looking to expand, improve and differentiate. This past week saw CyberGhost move on to the expansion path with the monumental $90 million purchase of Private Internet Access.

Private Internet Access’s parent company, LTMI Holdings (London Trust Media), is a privacy-focused organisation on its way toward one million subscribers, creating motivation for Kape Technologies, CyberGhost’s parent company, to make a swift purchase.

Kape Technologies’ Rapid VPN Expansion

Over the past few years, CyberGhost or parent company Kape, in particular, have been exceedingly interested in rapid growth.

With a number of acquisitions under their belt and an increased market reach, CyberGhost and PIA are looking to become a significant player in the VPN space moving forward. As of 2020, Kape will boast more than two million premium or paying subscribers, making the service one of the largest in the VPN space across the globe.

Further in the future, it would be right to assume that Kape beefs up both PIA’s and CyberGhost’s service offering, stability and extra features to compete with the likes of NordVPN and ExpressVPN’s — though these two still remain the most significant players in the space.

Changing Names

Although it’s expected for CyberGhost and Private Internet Access to hold on to their naming schemes, Kape Technologies may be looking to rebrand.

The company’s CEO has stated: “This transaction makes our vision a reality by creating one of the most prominent privacy companies globally. In one acquisition, I believe we have positioned Kape to fast become one of the leading digital privacy service providers in the world, empowering consumers to manage their own data and digital security.”

Also outlined was the desire to take hold of the Private Internet Access name in place of Cape Technologies, making the company a true leader in security — now by name and by services.

CyberGhost and PIA

To end, it’s important to note that CyberGhost and Private Internet Access are both stellar VPN services, with high speeds, incredible security and a suite of exclusive features such as stream-focused servers.
