SaferVPN - prices - Christmas Australia 2018

If you’re an open web follower, SaferVPN is just the right option for you. This VPN service has always been a staunch supporter of the open web. They don’t share your personal information with anyone, and they have a user-friendly interface and good server strength. In fact, they boast that their USP is being fast and simple. Their speeds are good and their service benefits both newbies and seasoned pros.

Customer Support staff from SaferVPN got in touch with us just this week (19 June 2017) to give an update on some of the changes to their VPN pricing plans. To simplify things, they now offer a single vpn plan with a rate that varies according to how long you sign up for. (see prices below)

They also offer a 24-hour free trial and a 14-day money back guarantee. This makes it a safe bet for a trial run. And if you refer someone to them, you will get one month’s subscription free. You can get up to 12 months of credit this way. This makes their referral program highly lucrative. I mean, 12 months of free VPN – you can’t say no to that!

SaferVPN - plans and prices - December 2018

One of our favorite features of all SaferVPN plans is their Automatic Wi-Fi Security functionality. This is a feature that is enabled by default on their iOS and Android apps, which provides protection when you connect to a public wi-fi network. Considering how many of us use a smartphone as part of our daily lives, having the ability to connect to safely and security connect to a public hotspot (think: airports, McDonalds, cafe, hotel) is a huge advantage. For us, the best aspect of the SaferVPN Automatic Wi-Fi Security function is that it enables itself and connects automatically when it detects that a user is trying to connect to an unsecured network. Once connected, iPhone and Android users can rest at ease knowing they are protected by 256-bit encryption (which is the same high level of protection used by most Banks around the world).

One of the biggest improvements that we have noted in the SaferVPN offering, is that they recently introduced their VPN Internet Lock feature for Android & iOS. This is effectively a VPN Kill Switch that cuts your Internet connection when your VPN fails over unsecured networks, hiding any and all of our users vital information! It can easily be enabled (or disabled) from the Menu for each app:

SaferVPN supports a variety of protocols. These include:

  • OpenVPN
  • PPTP
  • L2TP/IPSec
  • IKEV2

SaferVPN is somewhat unique compared to alot of other VPN companies out there in regards to its offering of IKEv2. This acronym stands for: Internet Key Exchange version 2. It is a new VPN protocol implemented over IPSec and is based on IPSec tunneling protocol. The features that we particularly liked is that it is currently the fastest vpn protocol available and has been seen to be very stable in the testing that we carried out.

OpenVPN provides the highest security because it uses the 256 bit AES encryption technology. PPTP uses the 128 bit encryption.

SaferVPN is upfront about its privacy policy, and makes it clear that it collects and keeps the following information:

  • time you connect to the SaferVPN network
  • amount of data transmitted
  • your IP address that you used to connect
  • the IP address of the SaferVPN server that you connect to.

In recent communication that we received from SaferVPN representatives on this matter, they were very clear on this point:

  • they DO NOT store any information related to the websites you visit
  • they DO NOT store any data that you transmit during your session.

Depending on the level of online anonymity that you are trying to achieve, we found this stated privacy policy to be entirely acceptable. If your chief concern is getting protection from cyber criminals and accessing geographically restricted content, you don’t have to worry about them maintaining (minimal) connection logs.

  • iOS
  • Router
  • Chrome (browser extension)

One of the key features of their apps that we particularly liked is that they are all “1 Touch Installation”. This effectively means that anyone can install and use their apps / service with a minimal amount of fuss. 1 Touch Installation means that you can install their apps and get up and running with the vpn service quickly, seamlessly, and without any technical knowledge required.

NOTE: SaferVPN have recently advised us that their apps for Windows and Mac have recently been updated and now include an improved interface, as well as DNS / IPv6 leak protection:

SaferVPN offers detailed setup guides along with a live chat facility. You can also get support through email. Their support staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Simple queries are answered within minutes, while more detailed ones can take a day or two.

A bit more detail about their Live Chat feature. We were impressed. When we contacted them at the time of writing this article, we put a simple question to them (i.e. do you offer a Kill Switch function). We received an answer literally within 5 seconds! If that is indicative of their normal Live Chat response times, well that is quite impressive. You can’t ask for better than that.

You can sign up with your email and password. SaferVPN accepts Bitcoin, so if you seek total anonymity, you can choose that option. If you choose other modes of payment, you will have to enter some personal information. That said, you are not required to enter a billing address for processing the credit card. After completing the payment, you can download SaferVPN. Installation is easy – they do promise simplicity after all.

When we recently tested them, we found connection speeds to be above average (compared to other leading vpn service providers). SaferVPN server speeds are more than adequate for Skype calls and Torrenting. You can also stream HD Movies and TV Shows without experiencing any noticeable lag. SaferVPN offers dedicated clients for Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS.

  • New simplified pricing plans (with VERY generous discounts when you signup for longer periods)
  • Automatic Wi-Fi security.
  • VPN Kill Switch.
  • DNS / IPv6 leak protection.
  • Speedy and reliable – the connections are consistent
  • User-friendly Apps for various operating systems
  • Dedicated apps for: desktop, mobile, router and browser.
  • Supports a range of encryption protocols (including the new IKEv2 protocol)

  • There wasn’t alot that we didn’t like. They have certainly improved their offering during 2017, especially in regards to their Privacy Policy and DNS / IPv6 leak protection.

SaferVPN has grown in recent years to become one of the leading vpn service providers globally. We were impressed with their recent communications with us in relation to new vpn functions and features, which says to us that they are completely serious about staying at the top of the vpn game. If you are looking for a reputable vpn service that provides solid online anonymity at a reasonable price,  SaferVPN is indeed a safe choice.
